Getting my spill on!! #LicensetoSpill

Being an “Arizona girl” (so to speak) I’m not all that big on carpet.  Carpet is for bedrooms…period.  But once you move somewhere, um, colder and realize that tile floors would be absolutely freezing in the winter, carpet is definitely where it’s at!   One downside of carpet are stains – with kids, pets, and clumsy adults (ahem, me!) – it can be a pain keeping carpets looking fresh and new.  We also recently had our carpets cleaned – and the results were less than stunning, sadly! (They are obviously not Mohawk SmartStrand Carpet.)

Soy sauce, red wine, and blue poweraid – I would die if they got on my carpet!

This past Sunday, I headed out to Seattle *alone* to check out Mohawk Flooring’s “License to Spill” event, where they encourage everyone to come check out their incredible SmartStrand technology that is not only eco-friendly (made from 37% renewable resources, less greenhouse gasses in production, and more – check it out) but also just amazing.  It contains no chemical stain resistance – the stain resistance is built into the carpet itself.  What does that mean for you?  It means that when you get a stain on the carpet, you can simply clean it with water.  Water!  WATER?!?!  Yes, just water.

Kids watch as their stains are washed away with just water!

While I was there, people were encouraged to come and check out the product for themselves.  It was so fun to watch kids ‘trash’ the carpet and then be amazed as the stains simply rinsed away with water.  While I was there, I chatted with Tom, who is the Mohawk representative for Neilsen Bros Flooring in my part of Washington – he was super knowledgeable and friendly.  Did you know that Mohawk did a major durability test for the SmartStrand carpet?  They installed it in a rhinosaurus enclosure at the Birmingham zoo in 2009 and left it there – all 1,040 square feet – for TWO WEEKS.   Can you imagine the mess?!?  At the end of the 2 week test, they simply cleaned it with hot water extraction – no shampoo or detergent – and it came clean!  (You can check out more and even see a video on Mohawk’s website, here)

Since Mohawk was appearing at the 26th Annual Italian Festival, you bet I had to get some fabulous italian food for myself.  Mohawk partnered with Tom Douglas’s Cuoco, and Chef Matt (in the center) was going to be a demo for lasagna later in the day.  The License to Spill tent was going to be handing out samples of the lasagna, and I’m pretty sure at some point some ended up on the carpet.  (Thank Goodness it’s easy to clean, right??)

OH MY GOODNESS. So good, you guys. So good.

I grabbed some roasted pork over a delectable (gluten free!) cheesy polenta with some fabulous veggies from Prosser Farm.  It was so good, and the gals from Mohawk were so tempted by my plate, they headed over and bought their own. It was a perfect lunch!

Getting our spill on – at home!

I was able to bring home a couple of carpet samples so we could replicate the experiment of spilling at home.  We chose red wine, grape juice, coffee, and (a biggie with our wood stove) ashes from the wood burning stove.  They loved spilling, naturally.  And the rinsed product….

It’s good as new!

While I was at the festival, Better.tv was also present filming the nationally syndicated Better Show!  It’s all about the Seattle Italian Festival, so check your local listings to see when it’s going to be aired in your area!

In addition, because Mohawk Flooring rocks, they’re giving away a 6×9 area rug with SmartStrand technology!  You can enter (super simple entry, too – name/email) on their website, here!  Go do it now!!
